With the return of the school season, emphasizing locker room safety is crucial due to its significance for minors and individuals who may be vulnerable. Locker room safety transcends mere physical security—it encompasses emotional well-being, trust cultivation, and the establishment of a respectful environment for all individuals
Having guidelines promotes a respectful and safe environment for all team members, ensuring that everyone feels comfortable and secure when using the locker room facilities. Here are tips to keep our kids safe:
Secure Valuables: Keep your valuable items locked up in your locker. If the locker doesn’t have a lock, bring your own and remember the combination or code.
Adults in Locker Rooms: Apart from parents, coaches, and teachers, adults should not share locker room spaces with minors. If you sense someone is behaving inappropriately or suspiciously, inform a trusted adult or site security immediately.
No Unauthorized Devices: Avoid using cell phones, cameras, or video equipment in locker rooms and changing areas. If you come across anything suspicious, like a hidden camera, report it promptly.
Foot Protection: Wear flip flops or some form of foot protection, like slippers, to prevent foot fungus and infections from developing in the locker room environment.
Modesty: Practice modesty and avoid walking around nude in the locker room. Use a towel to cover yourself when changing, especially when sharing the space with unfamiliar individuals.
I don’t have school-aged children, what can I do to be a good neighbor?
If you notice unfamiliar people in the vicinity during school travel hours, notify neighborhood property management or security personnel. Contact the local school to notify any suspicious activity you witness between school-aged children and adults.
